The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Tuesday that India had opened all gates of the Thane Dam into Ravi River, 24NewsHD TV reported.
According to a spokesperson for the PDMA, 210,000 cusecs of water is entering the Ravi River from Kot Naina in Pakistani territory and water flow at Kot Naina will increase further in the next 24 hours. In the next 48 hours, very high level of flood will pass through Jasarr, Shahdara and Head Baloki. Alerts have been issued to commissioners and deputy commissioners of Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Sahiwal and Faisalabad.
According to the PDMA, water level in the Ravi River is continuously increasing. There is a high level of flood at Jasarr in the Ravi River and low level of flood at Shahdara. At least 142,000 cusecs of water is continuously entering the Ravi River at Jasarr, the PDM spokesperson said.
The water flow at Shahdara in the Ravi River is 56,000 cusecs. The PDMA Punjab has instructed the administration of the districts adjacent to the Ravi River to take emergency measures. Instructions have been issued for the immediate evacuation of citizens in the Ravi River basin.
The PDMA director general said that people should be informed about the possible situation through announcements through mosques. He said that no negligence should be made to protect the lives and properties of citizens. He asked people to cooperate with the civil administration in an emergency situation. He said that precautionary measures can avoid damage.
