Pakistani security forces carried out a successful operation in the Sambaza area of Balochistan, thwarting a major attempt by militants of the outlawed Khawarij network to cross the border into Pakistan between August 7 and 9.
According to security sources, the operation resulted in the killing of as many as 47 terrorists, most of whom were Afghan nationals.
Sources revealed that the militants were intercepted before they could execute any terrorist activities, marking a significant achievement for Pakistan’s security and intelligence agencies.
They reported that the bodies of the slain terrorists had fallen on the Afghan side of the border following the engagement.
Despite this, Afghan authorities did not retrieve the bodies for a full fifteen days after the firefight, leaving them to decompose in the open on the Afghan side.
During this period, the decaying corpses were reportedly consumed by scavenging animals and birds.
On August 25, following a jirga held with Afghan officials at the border, the bodies were eventually removed, reportedly transported on donkeys into Afghan territory.
Security officials hailed the operation as a major success, preventing a large-scale infiltration attempt and neutralizing a dangerous terrorist formation before it could strike inside Pakistan.
