Karachi’s Anti-Smuggling Unit of Customs Enforcement has seized 803 smuggled mobile phones worth Rs62 million brought to Karachi from Balochistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
According to a spokesperson, plainclothes squad was deployed at strategic interception points. Teams were deployed at various checkpoints also.
Around 4 am, a Mazda truck was successfully intercepted at Hamdard Checkpost. The seized vehicle was safely shifted to CPF warehouse for further examination.
On initial inspection, 803 mobile phones of different top brands were recovered.
The smuggled mobile phones were recovered from a specially concealed compartment inside the oil tank of the Mazda vehicle.
The value of the recovered mobile phones is Rs62 million while the value of the Mazda vehicle has been estimated at Rs25 million. The total value of the case is approximately Rs87 million.
The driver and helper of the vehicle have been taken into custody and further legal action is underway.
A case has been registered under the Customs Act.
