Pakistani actress Saba Qamar has responded publicly to the controversy surrounding her appearance in a police uniform, after a petition was filed seeking the registration of a case against her.
In an Instagram story, the Baaghi star shared a screenshot of a news report about the petition, which alleges she wore a Punjab Police uniform without proper authorization. Along with the screenshot, Qamar also posted a copy of a letter dated September 31, 2021, addressed to the Deputy Inspector General of Lahore Operations.
According to the letter, permission was sought to purchase and use a police uniform for a “DGPR Punjab project aimed at Pakistan’s image betterment.” By sharing the document, the actress appeared to counter claims that she wore the uniform without approval.
Commenting on the petition, Qamar described it as an attempt to gain “publicity” by using her name and urged critics to “kindly look elsewhere for publicity.” She added that her success is the result of years of hard work and encouraged detractors to focus on their own journeys.
The controversy emerged after a petition was filed in a Lahore court alleging that the actress violated rules governing the use of official uniforms by appearing in police attire without prior permission. The plea was taken up by Additional Sessions Judge Ilyas Rehan.
During the hearing, the petitioner, Wasim Zawar, told the court that a video circulating on social media showed Qamar in a dressing room wearing a police uniform with an SP rank badge. He argued that wearing such attire requires a no-objection certificate from police authorities.
Zawar further informed the court that he had previously applied to the Old Anarkali police station for the registration of a case, but no action was taken. After hearing initial arguments, the court adjourned the proceedings until January 14.
