After years of speculation and fan anticipation, Hera Pheri 3 continues to remain stuck in development, with director Priyadarshan now confirming that the much awaited comedy will not begin filming anytime soon due to unresolved legal and production hurdles.
According to Priyadarshan, the delay is largely due to franchise rights complications and contractual issues that need to be sorted before the project can officially go on floors.
In recent interviews, the filmmaker admitted that while there is enthusiasm to revive the iconic trio, certain ownership disputes and paperwork formalities are preventing the team from moving ahead smoothly.
The Hera Pheri franchise holds a special place in Bollywood’s comedy landscape. The first instalment, Hera Pheri, released in 2000, became an instant hit for its situational humour and unforgettable characters.
Starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal, the film introduced audiences to Raju, Shyam and the iconic Baburao Ganpatrao Apte.
The sequel, Phir Hera Pheri, further cemented its cult status, with dialogues and scenes that continue to trend on social media even two decades later.
Over the years, several attempts were made to revive the franchise. Different directors were reportedly approached, scripts were drafted and shelved, and casting discussions made headlines. However, none of those versions materialised.
The latest revival attempt gained momentum when Priyadarshan, who helmed the original came on board, raising hopes that the original magic would return.
However, reports of contractual disagreements and temporary exits from cast members once again pushed the project into uncertainty.
According to industry insiders, discussions are ongoing to ensure that all stakeholders are aligned before production begins.
Priyadarshan has maintained that he will only proceed once every legal and creative concern is fully resolved.
He reportedly wants the third instalment to live up to the legacy of the first two films rather than rush into production.
For now, fans will have to wait a little longer to see Raju, Shyam and Baburao reunite on the big screen.
