NEPRA releases operational power plants performance report 2024-25. Capacity payments in fiscal year 2024-25 stood at Rs 1806.18 billion. Capacity payments of thermal power plants stood at Rs 1241.49 billion.
The capacity payments for renewable energy plants remain at Rs 564.69 billion, payments for nuclear power plants remain at Rs 362.70 billion, payments to power plants on local gas remain at Rs 36.16 billion.
According to report, record Rs 256 billion capacity payment to power plants on Thar coal, capacity payment to power plants on imported coal was Rs 413 billion. The payments on imported LNG were Rs 143.78 billion.
The capacity charges on furnace oil included Rs 28.87 billion, while 2024-25 main energy purchase price was Rs 11,037 billion.
The utilization of nuclear power plants was 78.5 percent. Utilization of power plants on local gas was 57.4 percent and utilization of power plants on Thar coal was 72.9 percent. The utilization of power plants using imported coal was 22.9 percent, the report said. The utilization of power plants using imported LNG was 41.4 percent, the report said. The utilization of plants using furnace oil was 1.9 percent, the report said. The total utilization of renewable energy, water, wind, solar, and bagasse power plants was 36.7 percent, the report said.
The renewable energy WAPDA Hydropower Projects Utilization Remained at 45.6 percent. The low utilization of renewable energy projects is the reason for increase in capacity and energy purchase price.
The low utilization of renewable projects causes increase in electricity price. Utilization of 965 MW Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Plant remained at zero due to plant shutdown.
