The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday passed a resolution opposing Pakistan’s participation in the Gaza Peace Board, expressing strong reservations over the initiative.
The resolution was presented by Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam Afridi. According to the resolution, Pakistan should reject the Peace Board formed by the United States and Israel because the board’s formation is contrary to resolutions passed by the United Nations Security Council.
The resolution stated that the leadership of Gaza was ignored in the formation of the Peace Board and alleged that the initiative is part of a conspiracy to strengthen Israel’s ambitions by delaying the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. It reaffirmed Pakistan’s long-standing principled position that Israel should not be recognized.
Through the resolution, the KP Assembly urged the federal government to continue supporting the sovereignty of Palestine and Gaza and to adopt a clear and principled stance against what it termed Israeli atrocities.
The resolution noted that US President Donald Trump had formally announced the Gaza Peace Board in recent days, and that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also signed the initiative, prompting concern within the provincial assembly.
