The coronavirus pandemic remained under check in Pakistan as the country recorded 1,226 cases and 35 deaths during the last 24 hours (Saturday), said National Command and Operation Centre in its latest update on Sunday morning.
There has been a sharp decline in the number of coronavirus deaths and cases in Pakistan during the last many days. The number of deaths plunged more than half on Friday as compared to a day earlier when 54 people died of the virus. And also on Saturday, the Covid-19 claimed just 35 lives in the country, raising the death toll to 5,822.
Most of Saturday’s deaths were recorded in Sindh where the number of people dying of the coronavirus reached 2,135 after the addition of 21 more fatalities.
On the other hand, the number of deaths in Punjab currently stands at 2,116 with the addition of three more deaths followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 1,176 with six more deaths, Islamabad 163 with one more death, Balochistan 136, Azad Kashmir 49 and Gilgit-Baltistan 47.
As far as the coronavirus cases are concerned, Pakistan registered 1,226 more cases on Saturday taking the total infections in the country to 273,113. Sindh tops the list with 117,598 people being diagnosed with the infection. The updated data for the other provinces and regions is: Punjab 91,901, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 33,220, Islamabad 14,841, Balochistan 11,578, Azad Kashmir 2,023 and Gilgit-Baltistan 1,952.
Meanwhile, the number of total active coronavirus cases has now dropped below 30,000. Out of these 29,857 active cases, 1,894 patients are in a critical condition and being treated in the intensive care units of different hospitals across the country.
This reduction in the active cases came as 237,434 people have so far fully recovered from the infection caused by the coronavirus, making it a significant count.
In the meantime, the number of tests administered since the coronavirus pandemic began has now increased to 1,868,180 after 23,254 people were tested for the infection during the past 24 hours. Of these, 11,009 tests were conducted in Sindh, 7,385 in Punjab, 2,040 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,915 in Islamabad, 494 in Balochistan, 75 in Gilgit Baltistan and 336 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
There was no patient on a ventilator in Balochistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. As many as 238 ventilators were occupied across Pakistan out of 1,859 allocated for the COVID-19 patients.
Meanwhile, an NCOC special morning session will be held tomorrow (Monday) at Peshawar as part of Centre’s initiative of reaching out to the provincial capitals for coordinated efforts on various important issues and acknowledging civil administrations for all-out measures for Covid-19 containment to ensure public safety and health.
