Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan on Saturday filed in the Supreme Court (SC) an appeal challenging the rejection of his bail petitions in the May 9 cases by the Lahore High Court (LHC), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The LHC had rejected the bail pleas filed by Imran in the May 9 cases.

Aleema exhorts people to join PTI's protest movement

Also on Saturday, Aleema Khan, Imran’s sister, said that she and her two sisters kept waiting outside the Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi for hours to attend the hearing of the Toshakhana-II reference. “So far, only eight to nine persons from the prosecution have gone inside the jail. But Imran’s lawyers have not been allowed to enter,” she said, and wondered how there could be a fair trial when the lawyers of the defendant would not be given access to the courtroom.

This was despite the judge’s order, she added, that the defendant’s family members and lawyers should be allowed to enter the jail. “These are the consequences of the 26th Amendment that even the judge’s orders are being overlooked.”

Aleema said that judges had started feeling helpless and the system of justice had been paralyzed. “That’s why Imran has directed his party to launch a movement,” she said, adding, “The government is afraid of PTI’s movement.”

She said that PTI workers were being sentenced every other day. “This shows that there is an element of fear,” she opined.

“But we are not afraid of those who are themselves terrified,” Aleema said, and added, “People will now have to step out of their homes for their rights. People should no longer wait for Imran to come out of jail and lead them. They will have to take an initiative on their own.”
