Anticipation runs high in Quetta tonight as the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was due to meet for a crucial moon-sighting session to determine the beginning of Muharram-ul-Haram, 1447 AH, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Ruet-e-Halal Committee is responsible for officially determining the Islamic calendar in Pakistan, and observes the moon to mark the start of each lunar month.
The session for today is expected to be chaired by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, and will take place at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Quetta.
According to an official statement, zonal and district level committees will hold parallel sessions across the country in a coordinated effort.
This is intended to ensure a unified and accurate announcement concerning the commencement of the Islamic New Year.
