A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Friday handed over five suspects, including three foreign nationals and two Pakistanis, to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on a four-day physical remand in connection with an alleged illegal human organ and placenta trafficking case, 24NewsHD TV reported.
The suspects were produced before the court of duty judge Mian Azhar Nadeem, following their arrest during a joint raid conducted by the FIA and the Human Organ Transplant Authority (HOTA) team in Islamabad's F-7 sector a day earlier.
According to investigators, a large quantity of fresh, dried, and processed human placenta was recovered during the raid.
The FIA alleged that the suspects were involved in obtaining human placentas from hospitals in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.
Investigators further claimed that the processed placentas were falsely declared as sheep organs before being exported abroad, allegedly to conceal their true nature.
The court approved the FIA's request for a four-day physical remand to facilitate further investigation and directed the agency to produce the suspects again upon completion of the remand period.
