Taking a step towards ensuring safe blood transfusion, it has been decided to increase monitoring of blood banks in Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Vigilance teams will be formed for implementation on the SOPs.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Punjab Minister of Specialized Health Khawaja Salman Rafique on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the provincial government was taking steps to remove the obstacles in the way of treatment of Thalassemia patients. “So far, 4,30,669 people have been screened,” Rafique said, adding that out of these 4,30,669 people, 3,90,080 had been provided treatment.
He said that screening would be increased in order to detect Thalassemia patients.
Parliamentary Secretary Syed Ziaullah Shah, Director Institute of Blood Transfusion Services Hospital Dr. Farhan, In-charge Provincial Thalassemia Programme Dr. Masooma and Dr. Rabia from Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority were also in attendance.
