A large number of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers, including women activists, staged a protest demonstration outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Provincial Assembly on Monday, as part of the party’s “Save the Province” movement, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The participants strongly condemned the provincial government's alleged corruption and incompetence.
They were chanting slogans against the provincial authorities, accusing them of turning a blind eye to rampant corruption and failing to address critical issues affecting the people.
They were also holding placards, highlighting issues such as massive corruption, persistent power outages, and rising unemployment.
Addressing the protest, PPP leaders claimed that over Rs 41 billion worth of corruption has been committed in Kohistan alone, yet no investigations have been launched.
They criticized the provincial administration for failing to act against such large-scale financial irregularities.
They also pointed to the worsening power crisis, highlighting the ongoing, severe load shedding across the province, which they allege the government has completely ignored.
Protesters also condemned the rising unemployment among youth, accusing the KP government of being unresponsive to their plight.
“Our youth are jobless, and there’s no one to listen to their grievances,” said one protester.
Due to the protest, both sides of the busy Khyber Road were blocked, causing traffic disruptions.
Authorities have advised commuters to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Security was heightened around the assembly to prevent any untoward incident during the demonstration.
