Veteran politician Akhtar Hussain Rizvi passes away at 78

Senior politician and former provincial minister Akhtar Hussain Rizvi passed away at the age of 78. He had been suffering from heart and liver-related ailments.

Hailing from the town of Chonda in Pasrur tehsil, Rizvi had a long and distinguished political career. He was elected as a member of the Punjab Provincial Assembly five times and also served as the chairman of the Chonda municipality on two occasions.

He came from a prominent family with deep roots in public service. He was the brother of former sessions judge Syed Ijaz Rizvi and former additional secretary of Punjab, Tajamul Rizvi. He was also the father of Aun Rizvi, also known as Bobby Shah, and the father-in-law of Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi. Additionally, he was the uncle of Punjab Assembly Secretary Imran Rizvi.

His contributions to the political and social fabric of Pasrur and Punjab are widely acknowledged, and his death marks the end of an era for local politics.

The funeral prayers of Syed Akhtar Hussain Rizvi will be offered in Lahore.
