A coaster travelling from Rawalpindi met with an accident near Chhatar in Muzaffarabad after reportedly losing control and falling into the Jhelum River on Tuesday, rescue officials said.

According to initial reports, both the driver and a traffic police officer were present inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. The injured driver has been shifted to a hospital for medical treatment, rescue sources confirmed.

Officials said the incident occurred during an alleged traffic enforcement operation when the vehicle was stopped for a challan of Rs 5,000.

It is further alleged that the driver attempted to avoid the challan, after which the situation escalated.

Some accounts also claim that the driver lost control of the coaster during the exchange, causing the vehicle to plunge into the river. However, authorities have stated that an investigation has been initiated to determine the exact sequence of events.

Rescue teams responded to the scene and carried out emergency operations following the accident.

Further details are awaited as inquiry into the incident continues.
