There are fears of a heatwave in Punjab during the Eidul Adha holidays, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
According to an alert issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), daytime temperatures in Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sargodha, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan and other cities in southern Punjab would remain four to seven degrees above normal and could rise to 50 degrees Celsius, while in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot and other cities in central and upper Punjab to 42 degrees Celsius.
Nighttime temperatures too will remain above average during the aforementioned period.
PDMA DG Omar Javed has advised people, especially children and elderly, to avoid exposure to sun between 10:00 AM in the morning and 5:00 in the evening, and consume as much water and drinks as possible in order to protect themselves from intense heat.
He has also urged people to wear a cap or use an umbrella before stepping out of their homes.
“Do check the pressure of your car’s tyres and the water level in radiator before setting out on a journey,” the DG has said.
He has also urged butchers, traders and the people tasked with removing animal hides and remains of sacrificial animals to take precautionary measures in order to protect themselves and animals from heat. “Make animals drink as much water as possible and also sprinkle water on them,” he has said, adding that the provision of drinking water and shade should be ensured at cattle markets.
Also, he has gone on to say, set up medical and veterinary camps at cattle markets to treat buyers, sellers as well as animals in case they fall sick due to intense heat.
He has also asked people to dial helpline number 1129 in case of an emergency or to seek information.
