US President Donald Trump has heaped praise on the Pakistani civil and military leadership at the onset of ASEAN Summit as he brokered a peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, once again taking credit for mediating several global conflicts.
The 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday that Trump referred to tensions between Pakistan and India, describing the Pakistani field marshal and prime minister as “great figures.”
The US president brought another war to an end, as a peace agreement was reached between Thailand and Cambodia.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Malaysia, President Donald Trump said he prefers ending wars rather than starting them and that he seeks peace across the world.
Trump added that the Thailand–Cambodia peace accord would help save millions of lives.
President Trump arrived in Malaysia on Sunday on the first leg of his Asian tour, which is expected to include crucial trade negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Before departing Washington, Trump told reporters he was open to meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, their first potential encounter since 2019, during his stop on the Korean peninsula.
It was Trump’s first visit to Kuala Lumpur as president, and his arrival was marked by a red-carpet welcome at the airport, where two Malaysian F-18 jets escorted Air Force One on its final approach.
Smiling and waving, Trump greeted cultural performers and even joined in briefly with his characteristic arm-waving dance as Malaysian and US flags fluttered across the tarmac.
Elsewhere in the capital, a small group of protesters held placards reading “Dump Trump” in a peaceful demonstration against his visit.
