The imposition of section 144 in Punjab was challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Filed through Muhammad Azhar Siddique Advocate, PTI leaders MPA Muhammad Ijaz Shafi, Sheikh Imtiaz Mehmood and others in their petition stated that apparently section 144 had been imposed to stop PTI’s long march and protest.
They argued that no specific threat had been mentioned in the notification issued for the purpose that could shed light on what necessitated the imposition of the section.
The petitioners prayed to the LHC to order the government to present in the court the legal basis which led to such a move.
They also requested the court to declare ban on peaceful congregations and political activities in conflict with basic constitutional rights.
The petitioners sought the court order to suspend ban on gatherings of peaceful and unarmed protestors.
They also sought the court order to the police not to arrest, detain or register an FIR against peaceful political workers.
