On the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday promulgated an ordinance for the protection of Islamabad capital territory safe city cameras and surveillance infrastructure, and ensuring compensation for any damage caused to them, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The purpose of the ordinance is to protect the infrastructure of safe city cameras and surveillance from any damage and to make up for any loss, if caused, said a press released issued by the President Secretariat Media in Islamabad.
It is laid down in the ordinance that fine will be imposed on those damaging such infrastructure, or inciting others to do the same.
Any one damaging a camera or causing any other loss to the infrastructure will be fined Rs2 million each, and in the event of such a damage caused during protests, rallies, processions, public gatherings, sit-ins or strikes, the organizers of these events will also be responsible.
The amount of the fine and the cost of the damage will be determined by an authorized officer after providing the relevant person with an opportunity to be heard.
The concerned person will have the right to file an appeal in the court of district and sessions judge, Islamabad against the fine or the determination of the loss caused within 30 days.
The amount thus received will be spent on the repair and replacement of cameras and the infrastructure.
In case of non-payment of the imposed fine or damage cost, the amount may be recovered as arrears of land revenue.
The funds recovered through fines and compensation for damage will be utilized for the repair and replacement of safe city cameras and surveillance infrastructure.
