Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar says Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unequivocally presented the case of the entire Muslim Ummah at the United Nations General Assembly.
He was addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Saturday along with Prime Minister's Coordinator for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ikhtiar Wali Khan and Member Provincial Assembly Jalal Khan.
The Information Minister praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's address to the United Nations General Assembly, saying that the Prime Minister openly condemned Israel's aggression against Palestinians and highlighted the tragic stories of Palestinian children Hind Rajab and Wafaa Akila.
He said the Prime Minister’s speech was appreciated across the world and Palestinian representatives in the General Assembly also wholeheartedly applauded the Prime Minister's speech.
He said the Prime Minister’s address reflected the sentiments of the Pakistani nation towards the Palestinian people.
Attaullah Tarar said Pakistan's support to Palestine cause is not confined to mere words, but the government has dispatched relief goods to Gaza, Khan Younis, the West Bank and other parts of Palestine.
He also acknowledged the contribution of Jamaat-e-Islami and its Al-Khidmat Foundation in relief assistance to Palestine.
The Information Minister said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also ensured that medical students in Palestine could continue their education in Pakistan with government providing them education, boarding and lodging facilities.
Attaullah Tarar said the Prime Minister also spoke in clear terms against Islamophobia, Hindutva ideology and atrocities against Muslims in India.
He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan's position on Kashmir and made it clear that the right to self-determination is the fundamental right of every Kashmiri.
He said Pakistan would continue its diplomatic, political and moral support to Kashmiris until they achieve their right to self-determination.
Referring to India's unilateral action to hold Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, Attaullah Tarar said the Prime Minister made it clear that any attempt to stop, impede or divert Pakistan's share of water would be treated as an act of war.
He also recalled how Pakistan defeated India in the war under the brave and courageous leadership of Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Attaullah Tarar said the Prime Minister also declared Makkah al-Mukarramah as a red line and reaffirmed Pakistan's solidarity with Saudi Arabia.
Turning to domestic politics, Attaullah Tarar criticized the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government over the law and order situation saying that it is facilitating terrorist elements.
He said the provincial government is reluctant to take effective and decisive action against terrorism and described it as a political-terror-crime nexus in the province.
He said PTI also avoids condemnation of terrorist attacks saying that the party is acting as the B-Team of the TTP and C-Team of the Afghan Taliban.
The Information Minister also criticized Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, saying that provincial government failed to take ownership of the fight against terrorism.
He said Pakistan’s security forces and people are rendering sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
Attaullah Tarar expressed the government’s resolve to continue efforts for the complete elimination of the scourge of terrorism from the country.
He said PTI postponed its long march as it had failed to mobilize people and now has lost political credibility.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister's Coordinator for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ikhtiar Wali Khan criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government over the law and order situation, saying that the police force was not receiving proper support.
Talking about the Radio Pakistan Peshawar building that was burnt by the PTI protestors during 9th May protests, he said the Radio station was reconstructed within a short period and restarted in an improved form. He said similar efforts were required across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying that the hospital system had deteriorated and the police force was facing serious difficulties.
Referring to the recent Kohat incident, he said the sacrifices of security personnel had united the nation against terrorism. The Minister said Pakistan played its role in promoting peace by bringing the United States and Iran to the negotiating table in Islamabad.
He said keeping the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab open would help reduce pressure on the global economy and bring down oil prices.
Attaullah Tarar also mentioned that US President Donald Trump shared a clip of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's speech on his social media platform in which he talked about peace.
