Senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Syed Khursheed Shah has called on protestors blocking the national highways to end their sit-ins, announcing that the long-disputed canals issue has been resolved.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Shah said the resolution was finalized during a recent meeting between PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. "Only a formal nod remains, which will be given at the Council of Common Interests (CCI) meeting scheduled for May 2," he added.
"I deeply respect the lawyers and fully understand why they protested," Shah remarked. "Their sit-ins were justified. But now that the major demand of the people of Sindh has been met, the protests must end, and the roads must be reopened."
He urged protestors to trust the process, assuring them, “If, God forbid, something contrary happens at the CCI meeting, you have every right to resume protests. But, Insha’Allah, that will not be necessary."
Shah credited the success to the "wisdom of the PPP leadership" and the "strong, unified protests" by the people of Sindh, emphasizing that the achievement was not limited to the canals issue alone. "Moving forward, no new project will be built without the consensus of all provinces," he assured.
