More than six years after closing her social media accounts and lifestyle blog, Meghan Markle surprised the public by returning to Instagram at the start of 2025.
The Duchess of Sussex relaunched her account under the handle @meghan on New Year’s Day, sharing a short video of herself running toward the sea on a California beach before drawing the digits “2025” into the sand.
Observers quickly spotted what appeared to be a small slip in the video: a faint outline of “2025” in the corner of the frame, suggesting Meghan may have practiced the scene multiple times to perfect the shot.
The comeback marks Meghan’s first public curation of her profile since she deleted all her previous accounts in January 2018, shortly after her engagement to Prince Harry.
Fans also noted a subtle update: the account name was changed from “Meghan” to “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.”
Her renewed profile features a smiling photo of Meghan wearing a nearly £1,000 white cotton dress from New York brand Khaite, paired with a £12,500 diamond necklace by Santa Monica jewellery designer Logan Hollowell. The image was captured by fashion photographer Jake Rosenberg, a close friend of the Sussexes, who shared it online to officially welcome Meghan back to Instagram after her six-year absence.
