The Central Drug Laboratory (CDL) Karachi has declared one batch of Fenbur 50 mg and Mefco 50 mg each as substandard and adulterated, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday. 

Through a notification issued on Jan 23, CDL Karachi of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) issued a warning to the stakeholders to avoid the use of Fenbur 50 mg batch no 2752, manufactured in April 2022 and will be expired on April 2025.  

In another notification issued on Jan 25, CDL Karachi issued a warning to the stakeholders to avoid the use of Mefco 50 mg batch no 21053, manufactured in Sept 2020 and will be expired on Sept 2024. 

Addressing all the pharmacists and chemists at distribution, pharmacies, medical stores, doctors, medics, and the general public, the authority said alerted that tablets are sub-standard quality.   

According to the CDL, the manufacturer of Fenbur 50 mg is manufactured by Ms. Usawa Pharmaceuticals (Pvt) Ltd, Risalpur and Mefco 50 mg has been manufactured by Ms. Eros Pharmaceuticals (Pvt) Ltd Karachi. 

The CDL said that the company has been asked to withdraw the injection from the market immediately. 

If there are any problems with the tablets used, consult a doctor, it advice.
