Former Australian fast bowler Kane Richardson has announced his retirement from professional cricket at the age of 34, bringing an end to a career spanning more than a decade across international and domestic competitions.
Richardson made the announcement on Instagram following the conclusion of the latest Big Bash League (BBL) season.
The right-arm pacer had signed a one-year contract with the Sydney Sixers but was limited to just two appearances during the campaign.
He was part of Australia’s squad that won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in 2021 and also featured in the 2019 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup.
A regular feature of the Big Bash League since its inaugural season, Richardson finished his BBL career as the tournament’s fifth-highest wicket-taker, claiming 142 wickets overall.
“On the completion of the Big Bash League, I announce my retirement from professional cricket,” Richardson said in a statement.
“From my debut in 2009 until now, I feel I’ve given everything I had, and this feels like the right time to close out an incredible journey.”
At the international level, Richardson represented Australia in 25 One-Day Internationals and 36 Twenty20 Internationals.
