A spokesman of the National Assembly has strongly rejected news about lawmakers performing Umrah on government expenses, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The spokesman in a statement on Tuesday said that there is no facility available for the Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) to perform Umrah on the government's expenses.
The spokesman said that “every year a delegation comprising Members of the National Assembly performs Umrah and pays respects at Roza Rasool (peace be upon him) on the occasion of 12th Rabiul Awwal on personal expenses according to a resolution passed in November 2016.
The NA spokesman said that all the members of the delegation have to bear the expenses on their own.
As per the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the Federal Ministry of Religious Affairs is bound to arrange their travel and stay issues sans any expenses.
The spokesman said that performing Umrah on the government can be a proposal of anybody individually, but there is no such condition on the cards.
