Pakistan’s football community has welcomed the expected visit of FIFA President to the country, describing it as a historic and positive development for the long-neglected sport, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.
Players and officials said no FIFA president has ever visited Pakistan, making the announcement a landmark moment for local football.
Senior footballers expressed optimism that the visit could help revive the sport and draw global attention to Pakistan’s footballing potential.
“This is the first time in decades that such an effort has been made,” said former footballer Tahir Hussain, who has been associated with the game for several years.
“Inviting the sitting FIFA president is a welcome step and reflects serious intent.”
In a media interaction at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week, the FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced to visit Pakistan soon.
He said Pakistan is a great football-playing nation.
Footballers credited the current government and the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) for initiating the move, saying it could lead to long-term improvements in governance, infrastructure and development pathways.
Both senior and junior footballers said the anticipated visit has raised hopes that Pakistan football could finally enter a phase of stability and growth, with increased international engagement and structured development at grassroots and elite levels.
