A serious case of negligence by PIA staff has come to light after a female passenger’s mobile phone fell into the ventilation system of a Boeing 777 aircraft, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Sunday.
A female passenger lost her phone on July 6 while flying from Jeddah to Islamabad. The phone fell from her hand and went under the seat into the plane’s air system. She used mobile tracking and saw that the phone was still inside the plane and flying on different routes.
The passenger even posted a video of the incident on social media, showing how the phone fell into the aircraft system.
The woman claimed PIA staff did not pay heed to her requests for 13 days and later she filed a complaint with the Federal Ombudsman against PIA.
Finally, on July 19, the engineers opened the floor of the plane and returned the phone back to the passenger.
The experts said the phone’s battery could have become hot and exploded and thus could have put the lives of over 300 passengers in danger. However, PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan said the airline stayed in touch with the passenger the whole time.
