The Islamabad District Bar Association observed a strike on Monday against the alleged disrespectful behaviour of Assistant Commissioner Mahin Hassan towards members of legal fraternity, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Despite the strike call, court proceedings continued with the participation of a majority of lawyers.
According to reports from the District and Sessions Courts Islamabad, approximately 30 to 40 percent of lawyers abstained from appearing in court to pursue their cases in line with the strike call. However, the majority of legal practitioners attended court hearings, allowing judicial proceedings to continue with limited disruption.
The District Bar Association has demanded the suspension of Assistant Commissioner Mahin Hassan, alleging that her conduct towards lawyers was insulting and unacceptable.
As part of its protest, the Bar Association has also announced a protest demonstration at 11:00 am. Lawyers are scheduled to hold a protest rally from the District Courts Complex to the Deputy Commissioner's Office to press for their demands.
The legal community has maintained that the protest is aimed at seeking accountability and ensuring respectful treatment of lawyers by public officials.
Later, the protest rally was called off after successful talks between the lawyers and the district administration.
Assistant Commissioner, SHO, and other officers reached the Districts Courts where they apologized over AC Maheen Hassan’s behaviour and assured lawyers of full cooperation.
