Pakistan's father-daughter duo, Najib Niazi and 14-year-old Aswa Marjan Niazi, have secured gold and silver medals at the International Horseback Archery Championship in Russia.
According to officials, Aswa Marjan Niazi secured first place and her father, FIA Sub-Inspector Najib Niazi, finished second.
The success came after uncertainty over their participation when they were initially denied official permission to travel abroad.
However, the Lahore High Court, through an order by Justice Khalid Ishaq, granted permission for the pair to travel to Russia, enabling them to represent Pakistan on the international stage.
Aswa delivered an outstanding display of skill and composure throughout the competition, particularly in the championship's most demanding 90-second Hunt Track event.
During one stage of the event, her horse reportedly became uncontrollable and galloped at full speed.
Despite the unexpected situation, the teenage athlete regained control of the horse and completed the course with remarkable confidence and professionalism, earning praise from judges, officials and competitors from Pakistan, Russia and several other countries.
Following her impressive victory, Aswa Marjan Niazi has also been selected to represent Pakistan at the upcoming Asian Cup Horseback Archery Championship in China, becoming the youngest Pakistani horseback archer to qualify for a competition of this level.
