Pakistan's Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast another spell of monsoon rains, warning that heavy downpours are likely to affect large parts of the country from July 29, with the risk of urban flooding increasing in several regions.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the PMD predicted that the new weather system is expected to enter Pakistan on July 29, bringing widespread rainfall to Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The department said the first week of August is likely to witness particularly heavy monsoon rains.
Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department Irfan Virk said Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the Potohar region were also expected to receive heavy rainfall during the upcoming spell.
He added that Sindh and Balochistan were also likely to experience torrential rain, extending the impact of the monsoon system across much of the country.
The Meteorological Department warned that intense rainfall could trigger urban flooding in vulnerable cities and advised the relevant authorities to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to minimise potential damage.
