US Congressmen Ryan Zinke and Michael Baumgartner visited the Chief Minister's House in Lahore, where they were briefed on the Punjab government's development initiatives in key sectors, including education, healthcare, energy, and public transport.
The visiting congressional delegation was welcomed by senior Punjab ministers and government officials.
During the meeting, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat and Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan gave a detailed briefing on the provincial government's reforms and ongoing development projects.
The delegation was informed about measures taken to improve school infrastructure, expand educational facilities, and implement education reforms across the province.
Officials also briefed the visiting lawmakers on the establishment of new hospitals, intensive care units (ICUs), clinics, and the upgradation of existing healthcare centres to improve medical services for the public.
The US delegation was further informed about the Punjab government's electricity and solar energy projects, with particular emphasis on initiatives aimed at providing electricity to remote and underserved areas.
In the transport sector, officials highlighted plans to introduce around 3,000 electric buses across the province as part of efforts to promote environmentally friendly public transportation and reduce carbon emissions.
The visit provided an opportunity for the US congressional delegation to gain an overview of Punjab's ongoing development programmes and governance initiatives across multiple sectors.
The US congressional delegation also visited several of Lahore's historic and cultural landmarks during its stay in the provincial capital.
The delegation visited the Mazar-e-Iqbal, where Congressmen Ryan Zinke and Michael Baumgartner laid a wreath at the mausoleum of Pakistan's national poet, Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The visiting lawmakers also recorded their impressions in the guest book, paying tribute to Allama Iqbal's intellectual and philosophical contributions.
The delegation later toured the historic Badshahi Mosque, where they were briefed on its history, religious importance, and architectural significance. Officials highlighted the mosque's unique features as one of the finest masterpieces of 17th-century Mughal architecture.
The US lawmakers also visited the Lahore Fort, where they received a detailed briefing on its Mughal architecture and rich cultural heritage. During the visit, the delegation toured the historic Picture Wall, the Sheesh Mahal, and other prominent sections of the fort.
Director General of the Walled City of Lahore Authority, Najam Al-Saqib, gave the delegation a comprehensive briefing on the preservation efforts, historical background, and cultural significance of Lahore's centuries-old heritage sites.
