Brownstone Productions, the production company founded by actress and filmmaker Elizabeth Banks and producer Max Handelman, has signed a first-look television deal with Universal Television (UTV).
Under the agreement, Brownstone will develop and produce scripted television series for a wide range of platforms, with two projects already in development for NBCU’s streaming service, Peacock.
A major highlight of the deal is the announcement of Pitch Perfect: K-Pop Idols, a new television series that continues the beloved Pitch Perfect franchise.
The series is being written by Joel Kim Booster and follows the journey of a struggling singer-songwriter whose life is transformed after auditioning for the first all-American K-pop group.
The project taps into the global K-pop phenomenon while staying rooted in the musical and comedic tone that made the Pitch Perfect films a hit.
Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman will executive produce the series through Brownstone Productions, alongside Paul Brooks and Scott Niemeyer of Gold Circle Films, the production company that partnered on all previous Pitch Perfect movies.
Jason Moore, who directed the original 2012 film, returns to helm the series as both director and executive producer.
The first-look deal is a strategic move that deepens Brownstone’s collaboration with NBCUniversal, building on past successes such as the Pitch Perfect trilogy and the 2023 feature film Cocaine Bear, directed by Banks.
Brownstone has gained a reputation for producing high-energy, genre-blending content with wide appeal, and the new partnership is expected to further expand its footprint in television.
“This deal allows us to keep telling bold, character-driven stories for a global audience,” said Banks in a statement. “We’re thrilled to continue our work with Universal Television and look forward to bringing new and exciting projects to life.”
