Selena Gomez has stunned fans by naming her unexpected childhood crush, and it’s none other than rap legend Ice Cube.
During a recent appearance on Complex’s GOAT Talk with Colombian star Karol G, the Calm Down hitmaker opened up about her early love for hip-hop and the surprising star who stole her heart at just five years old.
“Can I tell you my first one that I had a crush on? Ice Cube,” Gomez revealed. “I had the biggest crush on him when I was, like, 5.”
The 31-year-old singer and actress laughed at the memory, admitting it may seem odd now, but added, “It’s so weird, but I just thought he would protect me.”
Gomez, who grew up around music thanks to her father being a DJ, also shared her admiration for Eminem. “One of mine was Eminem only because I grew up listening to him,” she said. “My dad would remix all kinds of songs, and every time it was an Eminem song, I would just get so excited.”
Though her crush on Ice Cube may have faded, the memory clearly still makes her smile, and fans are loving the unexpected revelation.
“It was just a childhood thing,” Gomez clarified. “But yeah, Ice Cube was my first crush.”
