A potentially serious train accident was averted when the Green Line Train derailed shortly after departing from Wazirabad Railway Junction on Friday evening.
According to railway sources, the incident occurred near Nala Palkhu, where the track reportedly broke under the moving train. As a result, two bogies of the Green Line train derailed near the Wazirabad junction.
Officials confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident, crediting timely response and controlled speed for preventing a major disaster.
Railway staff are currently working to bring the derailed bogies back onto the track using the engine’s power, while technical teams assess the damage.
Train operations on the Lahore–Rawalpindi section have been temporarily suspended following the incident, causing disruption to rail traffic in the region.
Authorities have assured that repair work on the damaged track is underway and services will be restored soon. Railway sources added that the Green Line train service from Wazirabad is expected to resume shortly once the track is declared safe.
