PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari held a telephonic conversation with Pakistan People’s Party Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, during which he inquired about the violent crackdown on the “Save the Province” movement rally held in Peshawar, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Tuesday.
Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha informed the PPP chairman that the peaceful protest was met with an aggressive response by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, which resorted to using teargas and shelling out of panic and fear of the rising public support.
Bilawal Bhutto praised Bacha for the successful organisation and turnout of the rally and strongly condemned the KP government’s repressive tactics. He commented that the provincial government’s strategy of direct confrontation with the public would backfire.
He further criticised the KP administration for subjecting an already oppressed and frustrated population—suffering from corruption, lawlessness, and unemployment—to state violence, calling the act unjustifiable and condemnable.
