The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) met on Tuesday to discuss the issue of the minimum age for marriage.
Quoting sources, 24NewsHD TV said the CII was not satisfied at the proposal that 18 should be the minimum age for marriage.
The CII meeting, which was held with Dr Raghib Naeemi in the chair, however agreed that the issue of social evils should be addressed. It said that social and Sharia-related aspects of Nikah should be reviewed.
Sources said that CII members did a comprehensive discussion on its five-point agenda and now it is compiling its recommendations. They said that CII’s decisions and recommendations would be released after a complete consensus is reached on them.
Discussing the minimum age for Nikah, sources said the CII considered issues like the year of puberty of a young person, social behaviours, Sharia-related issues and other problems.
On this occasion, the CII expressed its strong reservations about the draft laws passed by the National Assembly and the Senate and rejected these draft laws.
