Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated Pakistan’s largest model cattle market at Shahpur Kanjran in Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Tuesday.
During her visit, CM Maryam Nawaz inspected the various modern facilities available in the model market, including shaded enclosures, veterinary services, and infrastructure aimed at enhancing the experience for traders and buyers.
She was given a detailed briefing on the Shahpur Kanjran Model Cattle Market Project, which spans 74 acres. The market has the capacity to accommodate 25,000 large animals and 150,000 small animals.
For the first time in Pakistan, fans have been installed inside animal sheds to improve comfort, especially during the hot season. Additionally, a quarantine centre has been established to protect livestock from contagious diseases.
To further support livestock traders, 20 large residential rooms have been constructed. The market also features a mosque, washrooms, a veterinary clinic, a tuck shop, a bank, and an ATM to serve daily needs.
A loading/unloading bay, truck centre, auction bay, and modern slaughterhouse have been integrated into the layout to streamline animal trade and transportation. The market also provides ample parking space, a police post, and vast open areas for operations.
This initiative marks a major step toward modernising the livestock sector in Punjab. The second-largest model cattle market in Punjab is also planned for Jhang.
CM Maryam Nawaz awarded shields to officials and contributors for their outstanding performance on this significant project.
