South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has made a return to the national squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against India, beginning next month, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.
Bavuma has recovered from a left calf strain sustained during an ODI against England last month.
The injury had ruled him out of the World Test champions’ recent tour of Pakistan, where South Africa drew the series 1-1 after an impressive victory in the second Test.
That win came largely through the efforts of their spin trio—Keshav Maharaj, Simon Harmer, and Senuran Muthusamy—who have all retained their places for the India series.
However, off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen has been left out of the 15-member squad, while middle-order batter David Bedingham is another omission from the touring party that visited Pakistan.
Bavuma’s return is expected to boost South Africa’s stability and leadership as they prepare to take on India in what promises to be a fiercely contested series.
