The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to use artificial intelligence (AI) to help detect tax evasion and identify incorrect information in income tax returns, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.
According to an FBR spokesperson, an AI-based automated audit system will identify taxpayers who provide false or inaccurate information in their tax returns.
Action will be taken against those found submitting incorrect details.
The FBR has advised taxpayers to carefully maintain records of their financial transactions and ensure that all information provided in their tax returns is accurate and supported by proper documentary evidence.
The tax authority has warned that incorrect information in income tax returns may lead to action under the relevant laws.
The deadline for filing income tax returns is September 30.
