Free kidney transplant services have begun at Shahida Islam Teaching Hospital in Lodhran under the Punjab Chief Minister’s Transplant Programme, with free medicines for eligible patients in South Punjab, reported the 24News HD TV channel on Sunday.
The new facility is aimed at providing free kidney transplant treatment to deserving patients at Shahida Islam Teaching Hospital, giving residents of South Punjab access to the specialised procedure in Lodhran.
The programme will cover kidney transplantation for patients who meet the required eligibility criteria, while medicines related to the treatment will also be provided free of cost to eligible patients.
Questions about who can qualify for the facility and how the kidney transplant procedure will be carried out were also addressed by renowned kidney transplant surgeon Dr Adnan Sarwar.
Patients seeking treatment will be assessed according to the requirements of the transplant programme before they can receive the free facility.
Shahida Islam Teaching Hospital already has a Kidney Transplant Centre along with nephrology and dialysis services. The hospital lists kidney transplantation among its specialized medical services.
