Pakistan has rejected allegations by the Afghan Taliban authorities linking Islamabad to the recent violence in Nuristan, calling the claims baseless and fabricated, 24NewsJHD TV reported on Sunday.
In a fact-check issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting today, Pakistan categorically denied any involvement of its security forces or intelligence agencies in clashes in Nuristan or elsewhere in Afghanistan.
The ministry also rejected allegations that Pakistan was recruiting or training former Afghan security personnel or facilitating Daesh or any other terrorist group operating in Afghanistan.
It said no evidence had been presented to support the allegations, including identities, documents, communications, forensic evidence, or independent verification.
The ministry also dismissed a video being circulated on social media as evidence of Pakistani involvement.
It said the footage showed a few unarmed individuals whose appearance and equipment did not establish any connection with Pakistan.
Pakistan said the presence of various terrorist groups in Afghanistan has been documented in reports by the United Nations and other international organisations.
The ministry maintained that attempts to link Pakistan to the activities of such groups could not change what it described as the security challenges arising from militant groups operating from Afghan territory.
Pakistan urged the Afghan Taliban authorities to take credible and verifiable action against terrorist organisations operating from Afghanistan and honour their commitments that Afghan soil would not be used for attacks against Pakistan or any other country.
The ministry also criticised what it described as attempts to shift responsibility for Afghanistan’s internal security problems onto Pakistan.
