PIA cabin crew members are facing strict action after five flight attendants were reportedly found carrying a large number of cigarette packets on a Multan-to-Jeddah flight, prompting the airline to impose a new restriction during flying duty, reported the 24News HD TV channel.
According to a PIA circular, cabin crew members will be allowed to carry only one cigarette packet, or 20 cigarettes, while travelling on flying duty. Carrying more than one packet or 20 cigarettes could lead to strict action against the staff members.
Cabin crew members found violating the new limit may face suspension or be removed from flying duties.
PIA has also directed that cabin crew members be informed about the new restriction during their pre-flight briefing. Full compliance with the new instructions has been made mandatory.
The five crew members were reportedly found carrying a large number of cigarette packets a few days ago while travelling from Multan to Jeddah.
An investigation against all five crew members is currently underway in the PIA Human Resources department.
