An under-custody suspect was killed in a firing after armed men allegedly ambushed a Crime Control Department (CCD) team during a recovery operation in Lahore’s Chung area, reported the 24News HD TV channel.
According to police, the deceased suspect was identified as Muhammad Asif. The CCD team from Sherakot was taking him to a location for the recovery of evidence when his alleged accomplices attacked the team in the Chung area.
Police said an exchange of fire took place after the attack. During the firing, Muhammad Asif was allegedly hit by bullets fired by his own accomplices and died at the scene.
The attackers reportedly took advantage of the darkness and escaped from the area after the incident.
Police said the deceased was wanted in several serious criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder, robbery and dacoity.
