PPP candidate Waqar Mehdi will face MQM-P’s Nighat Mirza in an election for a Senate seat on May 6 after the candidate of the MQM-P, which had assured the PPP that its candidate would not compete in the election, on Monday filed her nomination papers in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
At a meeting between the PPP and MQM-P delegations at the latter’s headquarters on Sunday, the MQM-P had assured the former that its candidate would stand down so that the PPP candidate could get elected unopposed.
However, to PPP’s dismay, the MQM-P candidate filed her nomination papers on Monday.
