The School Education Department of Punjab has sought a detailed heatwave report from Met Office for considering early summer vacations in schools due to rising temperatures, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
Secretary of School Education Khalid Nazir Wattoo said that a final decision will be taken about summer vacations in the schools after obtaining approval from Punjab Chief Minister on heatwave report from Met Office.
The School Education Department of Punjab has announced early summer vacation for schools, starting from June 1, 2025, due to rising temperatures.
Some reports said an official notification has been issued in this regard while it is not available on the official website of the School Education Department, which states that summer vacations in schools will start from June 1.
Secretary Education explained that if there is an unusual rise in temperature, the holidays could begin a week earlier.
This decision has been made keeping in view the health and well-being of parents, students, and teachers, as extreme heat can affect children’s academic activities, he added.
He highlighted that the effects of climate change are being felt globally, and Pakistan is not immune to these threats. Global warming has not only disrupted weather patterns but has also increased the frequency of natural disasters.
Experts say the intensity of heat is increasing year by year, and it is affecting education, health and other sectors across the world.
