A deadly explosion rocked the Wana area of South Waziristan Monday, killing at least seven people and injuring 16 others near the office of a local peace (aman) committee, authorities confirmed.
According to Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan, the blast completely destroyed the peace committee’s office.
The injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for urgent medical treatment. Meanwhile, police officials have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, though no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
The brutal explosion, targeting a symbol of local reconciliation, drew swift condemnation from political leaders across the spectrum.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly denounced the blast, expressing deep sorrow and grief over the loss of innocent lives.
"Elements playing with the lives of innocent people do not deserve any concession," Naqvi said, warning that such cowardly acts would not dent the nation's resolve.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
Echoing Naqvi’s sentiments, Vice President PPP Senator Sherry Rehman also condemned the attack, mourning the tragic deaths and calling it a cowardly act of terrorism.
"Targeting innocent civilians is the lowest form of violence," Rehman remarked, emphasizing that Pakistan’s security forces and resilient people would never be demoralized.
Similarly, Senator Saleem Mandviwala voiced his outrage, describing the attack as a manifestation of terrorists' cowardice.
"No matter what the terrorists do, our brave nation will not be shaken," Mandviwala asserted. He also offered prayers for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
