Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain has directed the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) to assess its financial capacity for another increase in pensions and place the matter before the relevant forum.

The EOBI, in a clarification issued on the minister’s directions, said any further pension increase would depend on the financial position of the pension fund and the outcome of an actuarial valuation, as required under Section 21 of the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Act, 1976.

The institution said EOBI pensions were increased by 15% in August 2025, with effect from Jan. 1, 2025. The minimum monthly pension was raised from Rs10,000 to Rs11,500, while pensioners were also paid arrears arising from the increase.

According to the EOBI spokesperson, pension revisions can be considered within a three-year period under the law but remain subject to the financial sustainability and actuarial position of the fund.

Hussain, taking notice of difficulties faced by EOBI pensioners, directed the institution to take up the issue of another pension increase within a year.

The EOBI Board of Trustees, at its July 28, 2026 meeting, approved an actuarial valuation of the fund, which is required before any further change in pension rates can be considered.

Hussain said the welfare of EOBI pensioners remained among the government’s priorities, but any further increase would be possible only after completion of the actuarial valuation, consideration of its recommendations and fulfillment of the required legal and institutional procedures.

The EOBI also advised pensioners and the public to rely only on information issued through official channels and warned against fake notifications, fraudulent claims and unverified reports circulating on social media.
