A 35-year-old woman was killed and her three children were seriously injured when a gas explosion ripped through their house in Landhi on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The family had returned home after two days of staying elsewhere due to the gas outage in the area.
According to the family, they had not received gas supply for 15 days and had to cook on a coal stove. When they came back to their house, they lit the gas stove without checking for any leakage. The resulting blast caused severe damage to the house and the occupants.
The deceased woman was identified as Faiza, while her injured children were 14-year-old Miha, who is in critical condition at the hospital, and two sons aged 12 and 10. They were taken to the Burns Ward of Civil Hospital for treatment.
The residents of the area said that they had been facing severe gas shortage problems for several months and had lodged several complaints with the authorities, but to no avail.
They also claimed that the gas pressure would increase suddenly after loadshedding, creating a risk of leakage and explosion.
