Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi said on Sunday that Islamabad would become the first smart city in the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During his visit to the Safe City Headquarters along with Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, he said that the entry of vehicles without M-tag in the federal capital would be banned from January 1, 2026.
Ordering to speed up work on the smart city project, the minister said that the project would later be extended to the entire country. “The project will be adopted as a model,” he added. He further said that reforms in the Safe City and an effective use of technology were need of the hour.
He informed that facilities such as Rescue 1122, traffic and security would be merged into a centralized system.
On the occasion, Naqvi sought a comprehensive plan for making the federal capital a smart city.
He also went to the control room and watched the staff at work.
He also reviewed the steps being taken for the protection of people’s lives and properties.
