Punjab police have finalised a comprehensive security plan to ensure law and order across the province on New Year’s Night, with heightened measures particularly in Lahore and other major cities, 24News HD TV reported on Sunday.
According to a spokesperson for Punjab Police, IGP Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, has directed all field formations to strengthen security arrangements ahead of the celebrations.
More than 25,000 police officers and personnel will be deployed across the province to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents.
The spokesperson added that surveillance will be enhanced through the extensive use of CCTV cameras, enabling authorities to closely monitor all activities throughout the night.
Special attention will be paid to sensitive areas, major roads, public places, and popular celebration spots.
IGP Dr Usman Anwar made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for reckless and unlawful activities on New Year’s Night.
He categorically stated that acts such as one-wheeling, aerial firing, hooliganism, and public disorder will not be allowed under any circumstances.
He further warned that individuals found harassing women or creating inconvenience for citizens will be arrested and sent to jail.
